The Private Bin series has been inspired by the McGuigan family tradition to always share a special family wine with their guest. This Shiraz features delightful dark cherry and plum aromas integrated with some smoky vanillin characters and cinnamon from the oak. The wine has a good mouth feel with both cherry and plum flavours with a peppery spice.

The nose is complex with sweet spice, black fruit aromas and some black pepper notes and spicy overtones. The palate is medium bodied with good fruit weight.

Sourced exclusively from Coonawarra's famed terra rossa soils over limestone and matured in French oak hogsheads, it offers a striking contrast to the richer, warmer-climate Shiraz styles for which Penfolds is equally renowned. The 2021 vintage reveals lifted aromas of blue fruits, violets and cracked black pepper unfold alongside mulberry, boysenberry and subtle baking spice, while savoury hints of paprika and cured meats add complexity. The medium-bodied palate is finely structured, balancing dark berry fruit with olives, spice and a seamless line of acidity. Silky tannins carry the wine to a long, poised finish, creating a cool-climate Shiraz that is immensely rewarding now and destined to evolve beautifully through to 2038.

Koonunga Hill Shiraz joined the range in 2002, a contemporary reflection of Penfolds multi-regional sourcing philosophy. Rather than relying on new oak, it is matured in seasoned vats, allowing the purity of the Shiraz and the character of each vintage to take centre stage. Its steadfast style has made it an enduring counterpoint to Grange and a favourite among collectors. The 2022 vintage is unmistakably St Henri, offering a rich, fruit-forward palate with a quiet sense of power. Aromas of raspberry, wild berries, freshly roasted coffee and cinnamon unfold in the glass, followed by savoury hints of marinated olives, peppers and brine. The palate brings together generous berry fruit with hazelnut, macadamia, white chocolate and Dutch liquorice, creating a plush, layered wine with real presence. Ripe, integrated tannins provide a firm yet effortless framework, balancing the fruit and carrying the wine to a long finish. Enjoyable in the full flush of youth, the 2022 St Henri has the potential to evolve beautifully in the cellar through to 2050.

A tribute to the Barossa's winemaking heritage, Pepperjack is crafted using a blend of traditional techniques and modern flair. Winemaker Richard Mattner - a born-and-bred Barossa local - loves making Pepperjack wines as much as he loves drinking them, especially alongside a great steak. As he says: "Why would I need anything else?" Deep dark red with a vibrant purple rim, the nose bursts with rich aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, mocha, and spice. The palate is plush and layered, delivering concentrated dark fruits, fine tannins, and a soft, lingering finish. Pepperjack Shiraz is a true Barossa classic.

The wine has a wonderful aroma displaying dark plum, redcurrant and red cherry fruits along with subtle chocolate and a touch of oak derived spice. The palate is plump & generous with ripe fruit characters of plum, cherry and redcurrant. Mocha coffee and subtle aniseed characters are also present along with vanillan oak to balance the fruit flavours. The wine is medium-bodied with a soft mid-palate & pleasing tannin structure. It is a well balanced wine with great texture, good length and enjoyable fruit flavours on the finish.
